SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION
The Victoria ISD Education Foundation works with community partners to offer scholarships to VISD graduating seniors who plan to enroll in institutions of higher education for further studies. Scholarship awards are forwarded to the college/university of the student’s choice upon enrollment.
VISD offers scholarships for students with a variety of skills and interests. Review the list below and check the scholarship criteria thoroughly before applying.

Athlete of the Year
Award amount: $1,000
For VISD Graduating Student Athletes. Sponsored by the VISD Education Foundation and the Bhatia Family
The VISD Education Foundation has partnered with the Bhatia Family to provide a scholarship to a VISD senior athlete.
Are you a VISD graduating senior who:
- lettered in a VISD athletic program,
- earned a four-year cumulative average of 85 or better,
- received no conduct grade below a B during senior year,
- received no discipline referrals during senior year, and
- had no more than three unexcused absences or tardies per semester during senior year?
If you answered yes, you are eligible to apply for the Athlete of the Year Scholarship.


Jenica Leigh Edge Barnard Memorial Scholarship
Award amount: $1,500
About Jenica Leigh Edge Barnard
Jenica Leigh Edge Barnard was born in 1994. She attended VISD schools and graduated from Victoria East High School in 2012. In May of 2016, Jenica graduated from Texas State University with honors and started her first job teaching second graders in Llano. Unfortunately, coming home from school, her precious life was cut short due to a car accident. Her 22 years of life graced the world with laughter, love, and a gentle spirit that blessed all she touched. She used her gifts to grow her students educationally and as lifelong learners.
The Jenica Leigh Edge Barnard Memorial Scholarship was established in 2016 to honor her vibrant life and continue the passion she possessed to educate students.

Shiv Ram Chandna Memorial Scholarship
Award amount: $750
For VISD Graduating Seniors who participated in the Communities in Schools Program.
Sponsored by Drs. Harish and Manju Chandna in memory of Shiv Ram Chandna.
Are you a VISD graduating senior who:
- participated in the Communities in Schools program and
- earned a four-year cumulative average of 80 or better?
If you answered yes to the above criteria, you are eligible to apply for the Shiv Ram Chandna Memorial Scholarship.


Willis Gathright Scholarship
Award amount: $500
For VISD Graduating Seniors who are former Vickers Elementary School Students.
Sponsored by: Vickers Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization.
Are you a VISD graduating senior who:
- attended at least four years at Vickers Elementary School and
- earned a four-year high school cumulative average of 85 or better?
If you answered yes to the above criteria, you are eligible to apply for the Willis Gathright Scholarship.


Katie Sanders McLeod Memorial Scholarship - NEW!
Award amount: $2,000
About Katie Sanders McCleod
About Katie Sanders McCleod: Katie Sanders McLeod attended VISD schools and graduated from Victoria High School in 1989. She graduated from The University of Texas in Austin in 1994 and received her teacher certification from the University of Houston-Victoria in 1995. Katie taught at Hopkins, Chandler and Howell. She was also the Director of the Methodist Day School.
Katie was an inspiration to others. She lived her life to the fullest and inspired the hashtag #livelikekatie. Words that describe Katie are sweet, caring, kind, loving, special, generous, beautiful.
She passed away from cancer in 2021 at the age of 50. The Katie Sanders McLeod Memorial Scholarship was established to honor her life and her dedication to help young people further their education.
For VISD Graduating Seniors who participated in extracurricular activities.

Bob Moore Honorary Scholarship
Award amount: $500
About Mr. Bob Moore
Mr. Bob Moore is a beloved former superintendent and administrator of the Victoria Independent School District. Mr. Moore announced in June 2012 that he would leave the district following 42 years of service in education. During his six-year leadership at Victoria ISD, Mr. Moore overhauled the district through a leadership model of assessment and goal-setting and led a successful bond election for the construction of two new high schools, a middle school, two elementary schools, a fine arts center and an aquatics center. His service to VISD students and staff as well as to the community of Victoria is honored through this scholarship.
For VISD Graduating Seniors in the Career and Technical Education Program who plan to attend Victoria College or University of Houston-Victoria.
Sponsored by Victoria ISD Employees, the community of Victoria, and the Victoria ISD Education Foundation.
Are you a VISD graduating senior who:
- took courses in the Career and Technical Education Program,
- plans to attend Victoria College or University of Houston-Victoria,
- can demonstrate financial need, and
- earned a four-year cumulative average of 80 or better?
If you answered yes to all of the above criteria, you are eligible to apply for the Bob Moore Honorary Scholarship.









Student Leader Honorary Scholarship
Award amount: $500
For Student Leader Participants.
Sponsored by the Victoria ISD Employees, the community of Victoria, and the Victoria ISD Education Foundation.
Are you a VISD graduating senior who:
- participated in the Student Leader program,
- earned a four-year cumulative average of 80 or better,
- participated in a minimum of two extracurricular or co-curricular activities, and
- will be attending the University of Houston-Victoria or Victoria College?
If you answered yes, you are eligible to apply for the Student Leader Honorary Scholarship.









Q. Shepherd VISD/UHV Student Scholarship
Award amount: $1,000
For graduating seniors in VISD who seek to attend the University of Houston-Victoria.
Sponsored by Dr. Quintin Shepherd and the Victoria ISD Education Foundation.

- Accepted at the University of Houston-Victoria?

For VISD graduating seniors who seek to attend Victoria College.

Christina M. Veliz Cosmetology & Trade School Scholarship
Award amount: $500
About Christina Veliz
Christina Veliz was a long-time resident of Victoria, TX. She loved helping others. She gave free haircuts, coached other stylists, and was a friend to clients and fellow stylists.

Dr. Martha A. Zuniga Memorial Scholarship
Award amount: $1,000
About Dr. Martha A. Zuniga
Dr. Martha A. Zuniga, who is memorialized through this scholarship, worked for the Victoria Independent School District. She passed away in August 2012 at the age of 61. Dr. Zuniga served as the Bilingual/ESL Coordinator for Victoria ISD, a position she was passionate about until her retirement in June 2012.
For VISD Graduating Seniors who participated in the Bilingual and English-As-Second-Language Program.

2023 DNV Future Leaders Scholarship
Award amount: $5,000
For any graduating senior from the Crossroads Area who plans to attend a four-year college, community college, or technical school, pursuing a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or Energy
Students must have demonstrated leadership abilities, participated in community service, or have shown a desire to continue serving others through various community activities and outreach programs.
Students must be graduating from High School in 2023 with a 3.0 GPA (on 4.0 scale) or higher.

2023 Schorlemmer Elementary School PTO Scholarship
Award amount: $1,000
For VISD Graduating Seniors who are former Schorlemmer Elementary School Students
Sponsored by: Schorlemmer Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization
Are you a VISD graduating senior who
- attended a full year of 5th grade at Schorlemmer Elementary School,
- earned a four-year high school cumulative average of 85 or better,
- participated in a minimum of one extracurricular or co-curricular activity,
- received no conduct grade below a B during senior year,
- received no discipline referrals during senior year?
If you answered yes to all of the above criteria, you are eligible to apply for the Schorlemmer Elementary PTO Scholarship.
